University of Exeter GSI

Global Systems Institute, University of Exeter

The Global Systems Institute (GSI) is a research institute based at the University of Exeter, focused on finding innovative solutions to global challenges such as climate change, biodiversity loss, and sustainability. The institute brings together scientists, economists, policymakers, and other experts to study the complex interactions within Earth’s systems, including ecological, social, and technological dimensions. By using an interdisciplinary approach, the GSI aims to develop transformative strategies that promote resilience and sustainability on a planetary scale. Its research addresses critical issues like energy transitions, food security, and the dynamics of the Earth’s climate system, contributing to global efforts for a sustainable future.

PIK

The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research

The Potsdam Institute for Climate Impact Research (PIK), is a leading research centre focused on understanding the impacts of climate change and developing strategies for sustainability. It combines natural and social sciences to analyse climate system dynamics, assess environmental, social, and economic risks, and propose pathways for a low-carbon future. PIK plays a significant role in global climate policy by collaborating with researchers and policymakers worldwide to inform decisions aimed at mitigating and adapting to climate change.

Max Planck Institut

The Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology

The Max Planck Institute of Geoanthropology, focuses on studying the complex interactions between humans and the Earth’s systems throughout history. It integrates interdisciplinary research from fields such as archaeology, anthropology, climatology, and environmental science to understand how human activity has shaped and been shaped by the natural world. The institute aims to explore the Anthropocene era, a period marked by significant human impact on the planet, and to address global challenges such as climate change, sustainability, and human adaptation to environmental changes. Through cutting-edge research, the institute contributes to understanding the deep and ongoing relationship between human societies and Earth’s ecosystems.

Bezos Earth Fund

Bezos Earth Fund

The Bezos Earth Fund was established with the largest philanthropic commitment ever to fight climate change and protect nature. The $10 billion grant commitment will be disbursed by 2030, the date by which the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals must be achieved. We aim to harness the best of human ingenuity, adaptability, and collective action to create a future in which everyone can thrive.

WCRP

World Climate Research Programme

The World Climate Research Programme (WCRP) is a global initiative established in 1980 to coordinate and advance scientific research on the Earth’s climate system and its interactions with human activities. Jointly sponsored by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO), the International Science Council (ISC), and the Intergovernmental Oceanographic Commission of UNESCO, WCRP works to improve understanding of climate variability, predictability, and long-term changes. It brings together scientists and institutions worldwide to develop models, observational systems, and datasets critical for climate research. The WCRP’s findings are used to inform international climate policy, adaptation strategies, and efforts to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

World Challenges Foundation

Global Challenges Foundation

The Global Challenges Foundation is a global initiative focused on addressing significant challenges facing humanity, such as poverty, inequality, climate change, and other pressing issues. It often involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including governments, non-governmental organizations, and the private sector, to develop and implement solutions.

ARIA

ARIA: Advanced Research and Invention Agency

ARIA is a UK R&D funding agency created to unlock technological breakthroughs that benefit everyone. Created by an Act of Parliament and sponsored by the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology, we fund teams of scientists and engineers to pursue research at the edge of what is scientifically and technologically possible.

Quadrature Climate Foundation

Quadrature Climate Foundation (QCF)

Quadrature Climate Foundation (QCF), established in 2019 by the founders of Quadrature, is an independent charitable foundation dedicated to addressing this climate emergency. Initially, the founders Capital (Greg Skinner and Suneil Setiya) were passionate about supporting causes that addressed poverty, inequality and human suffering. In 2018, they came to understand the way the climate crisis superimposed onto these challenges, undermining efforts to combat famine, support refugees, and manage natural disasters. This realisation led them to focus the work of the foundation on efforts to combat climate change, the most urgent challenge of our time.
